Velvet Paliotto

Front part of an altar or a decorative panel that can be placed to cover it.

It can be of cloth , marble , mosaic , painted table, carved wood or worked with precious metals such as silver or gold.

Ours is in red velvet , copper (once it was golden) and precious gems.

Late 18thC.
